W.P. EMMERSON,
OF NEAR AXTON, DIES
News was received here last this morning of the death near Axton, at three o'clock this morning, of W.P. Emmerson,
a widely-known and respected Pittsylvanian, who succumbed after a five days' illness of pneumonia, which his enfeebled
condition could not withstand. Mr. Emmerson was 81 years of age and was born near Cal-nds, having spent most of
his life in Pittsylvania county. He served through the Civil War and during his long life took active interest
not only in his old organization but also in the Axton Methodist church of which he was one of the oldest members
at the time of his death. During his more active years he had been a staunch personal worker in the church. He
was married in early manhood to Miss Fannie Ligon Pearson who died nine years ago. He is survived by four children:
Mrs. J. Minter, of Roanoke; Dr. G.E. Emmerson, of Wenonda; E.E. Emmerson, of Leaksville, N.C. and Mrs. P.S. Bondurant,
also of Leaksville.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday at two o'clock from the home by Rev. B.M. Beckham, who will come from Ferrum
for the obsequies. Internment will be in the family burial ground near the home.
