County History
Loudon County was created out of Fairfax County in 1757. John Campbell, Fourth Earl of Loudon and Governor of Virginia from 1756-1759, is the inspiration behind the name. Settlement began in the 1720-1730s with English, Germans, Quakers, Scot-Irish and African Slaves. By the American Revolution, it was a very populated county in Virginia.
