we are offering it to our visitors who have Virginia ancestors.
Your email
address will be posted along with your query so that you can be
contacted directly, or they can email me and I will contact you as well
as posting the data here for others to see. If you would rather that
your email address not be posted, please let me know in your initial
letter and I will act as the go-between to assure your privacy.
Also
posted here will be offers of assistance with different family names.

JOHNSON - Giles Co.
I am interested in finding information
on my great grandmother, Mary S Johnson (nee Miller) born 1875, married
to James W Johnson born 1873. The couple
moved from Christiansburg
to Pearisburg in 1900 and lived in Pearisburg,
then Narrows,
Giles County, VA until her death in 1956. I believe
she was active in church,
possibly Presbyterian. In addition to 4 other children, she had a
son Samuel Johnson,
who died in the influenza epidemic of 1918 during his service in
WWI. My great grandfather James W Johnson was the grandson
of Samuel
Johnson who volunteered as a private in Company "B" of West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry
during the Civil War.
In 1878, Samuel Johnson settled in Narrows and, later Pearisburg until
his death sometime after 1910.

NUNNALLY - Nottoway Co., Prince Edward Co.
I am trying to track down my
Gr-gr-gr-Granfather. His son was Samuel J. Nunnally who was born
in 1835 and died between 1910 &1920. He is listed in the 1910 U.S.
Federal Census as of 23rd April 1910...(as a Lamuel J. Nunnally,
believe it or not)...but must have died between 1910-1920. I have no
official date of death, but I was hoping to get a copy of his death certificate
thinking it may list his Parent's names. He, I believe, died in Crewe Town, Winningham
District, Nottoway County, Virginia. His wife's name was Martha Sarah,
but apparently preferred Sarah Martha and I believe she is listed as
such on her tombstone (I have been told) which is located in a Cemetary
located near ? Farmville
?
I am trying to track down the parents of my Gr-gr Grandfather, Samuel
J. Nunnally. He may have actually died in Nottoway County as that is
where he last lived as per the 1910 U.S. Federal Census, but I am
fairly certain he and his wife, Martha Sarah (tombstone may say Sarah
Martha 1847-1923) are buried near or in Farmville, Pr.Edward
County....
I hope to obtain a death certificate
or record for Samuel J.'s death hoping it may list the names of his
parents.
His father name may have been "Creed T. Nunnally" and he was apparently
from the Pr.Edward area

Fairview Road. Fairview Road 600 to the N.W. connects to US Hwy

JOHN HOLLAND & MARY RHODES - Fauquier
Co.
I am researching my Gr-Gr-grandparents John
Holland and Mary Rhodes. They came from England to US. My
grandfather John Rhodes Holland and his brother born 2 years later,
were the first of the family born in the US, in 1819 and 1821, near the
Chesapeake Bay area. The 1850 census gives names of children born
in VA in the early 1820s. They may have been in the Hume area in 1840,
and in the Delaplane (Piedmont) area in 1850. They had a woolen
mill in Fauquier County. Any info appreciated.

BOONSBORO VA INQUIRY
"My
grandfather, Sterling Lafayette Knight, used to live in Boonsboro, VA
(I think). I recall visiting up until the late 1960's. He had a
farm early on somewhere in the area which i visited with my Dad's
second wife, Lois (Tomlinson) Knight. Anyway, my dad was Leroy
Knight, his mother was Mabel Knight. My grandfather later married
Eva (Turner?) Knight. I am trying to find out if the house where
my grandfather lived is still standing. Unfortunately, I don't
recall the address, but I remember my dad saying, ''We're almost to
Boonsboro (city, road?). There is also a Knight family cemetery
on the hill not far from where the old Knight farm used to be.
There is now a housing complex surrounding it (may even have taken over
by now - I was last out there about four years ago)." Cara

POSTON FAMILY
The following is information that we currently have, any additional
information would be greatly appreciated.
Solomon Poston Sr. was born circa 1748 in Charles Co. Maryland.
He is the son of Edward and Mary Poston. Solomon was named in his
father's will dated 1790 (probated 1791). In 1794, Solomon Poston
sells all the land he inherited from his father and moved to Henry Co,
VA where he is listed on the 1800 Henry Co, VA Personal Property Tax
List. He is again listed on the 1810 PP Tax List, as well as the
1820 Henry Co, VA Census. He died in 1824.
What we basically know is that Edward and mary Poston from Charles City
Co, MD had at least three sons named in Edward's will in 1790 (probated
1791). Solomon, Bartholomew, and Benjamin Poston. It also
names Grandsons: Bartholomew and Edward Poston "sons of my son
Solomon". We know that Solomon Poston Sr. went to Henry Co
VA. Bartholomew went to Washington D.C. and Benjamin went to
North Carolina. Since Solomon Poston Sr. was the only Poston to
go to Henry Co, its assumed all Postons from Henry Co descend from
him. Looking for more information on his sons.

Turner/Graves
I am
working to make the link between two generations in my family. I need
an official document that shows that Sarah H. Turner is William
Turner's daughter.
William
Turner was born 11 Feb 1756 in England. He married Elizabeth Thurmond.
They had 9 children: Fannie (Fanny), Randolph, Bettie, William Cluny,
Jr., Sarah (Sallie) H. (my Great Great Great Grandmother), Talton,
Mariah (Maria), Alexander and Samuel. He died in Todd County Kentucky
while living with his daughter Mariah Turner Martin and her family.
William Turner enlisted in the spring of 1776 in the company of Captain
Francis Taylor of the Second Virginia Regiment. He served 4 years.
Following the war he settled in Albemarle County, Virginia (about
1782). He lived in Virginia until about 1834 when he was found living
in Todd County, Kentucky living with daughter Mariah and son-in-law
Pleasant Martin. Family history shows that William was a Methodist
Minister, however, I do not know if he was ordained. I found a copy of
his will, however, the will lists only one son and a daughter, Mariah
Martin, and her family and Samuel Turner.
Sarah H.
Turner was born 15 Jan 1794 in Albemarle County, Virginia. She married
William Lynch Graves 5 May 1811. They had 14 children: Hudson, Talrton,
Andrew, Mary Ann, Peyton, John Madison, Mariah (Maria) My Great Great
Grandmother--married to John Washington Spears, James, Sarah, William
Lynch, Jr., William Alexander, Sarah Ann, Noamie Jane, and James
Madison. Sarah died July 1878. She is buried along side William Lynch
Graves in the Graves family cemetery in Madison County, Tennessee.
Any
information about the Turner and the Graves family is sincerely
appreciated. I have documents from Sarah and William Lynch to the
present generation in my family line and am happy to share copies of
those documents with kin.

Russell/Mitchell
I am
trying to find my gggrt grandmother`s birth place and
parents
and siblings.
Here is
what I have:
Mazilla Russell b. abt oct 1825 ,I came to the month conclusion by
her ages from 1850-1880 census for W.Va1850-1860 and in IL 1870-1880
she was born in Va according to all the census was done with her and
her fam. She was married in Athens co. Ohio in Rome twp. dec.26,1845
to Cyrus Mitchell where he was born and raised and his father Joseph
Mitchell and his sons James, John and Cyrus owned and ran a lumber
mill.
Cyrus and
Mazilla had 4 children in Ohio and then they were
in
Wood co.WVa by jan where my ggrt grandfather Geo.Washington Mitchell
was born jan 22,1863,Parkersburg WV(Va) then later they moved down to
JAckson co. WVa. and their dau Rosella died giving birth and is
buried in the Sandy ?? cemt [ed. Prob. Sandy
Creek Baptist Church Cemetery]. They lived there untill late
1869 or
early 1870 then to Crawford co.IL Oblong twp.
they were
in the county
record book for Oblong. She lived there untill she died between 1885
and 1890. suppose to be buried in the Oblong cemt. where her children
and grand children and neice are buried. But she isn`t on the list or
in the death book.So I dont know when she died. Her husb. was living
with Geo and wife Mary Frances(Fanny Russell)??connections) and he
lived with them untill 1903 in Richland co.IL in Olney twp.
then they
moved toColes co.in Mattoon twp, where Cyrus died in aug. 1906 and
buried in Mattoon also in the Dodge Grove cemt. Nothing was mentioned
of her in the papers in his obits.
So this
is what I have of Mazilla (Russell)
Mitchell.
