Remarks: This District is remarkably free from malignant diseases. Of all white persons who take it, about 5 percent die; and of all blacks, about 30 percent.

Remarks: The climate in this District is mild and healthy; surface, undulating water, limestone; soil a black marl, producing all kinds of grain in abundance and sending up magnificent forests of oak. Limestone exists in great quantities, & Marble as fine as any way brought from Egypt or Paris; and the mountains on all sides are literally filled with Iron ore.
