Rockingham County, Virginia

Europeans began settling this area around 1745.
Rockingham County was established in 1778 out of Augusta County.
The county seat was named Harrisonburg and was incorporated as a town in 1780, becoming an independent city.
The county is named for the 2nd Marquess of Rockingham, Charles Watson-Wentworth, a British Statesman.
