Created from a portion of James City County in 1652, Surry County was
named for Surrey in English County.
It included all of James City County which was south of the James River.
It originally consisted of Lawne's Creek Parish and Southwark Parish.
The Powchay-icks Tribe and the Weyenoakes Tribe lived in the area in
the late 1600
