Keystone
Keystone, a town in the
northeastern part of Adams County. It was named in 1900 or 1901 by the first
postmaster, John W. Smith, in honor of his native state of Pennsylvania.
(Postmaster, Keystone, in Names MSS., Letter 351) The New Standard Dictionary
says Pennsylvania was called the Keystone "because it was the middle or
seventh in geographical position of the original thirteen states." -
