BATH PROVES ALMOST FATAL
Ephrata, Wash., March 24-Frank Johnson, employe of a local
laundry narrowly escaped death when a steam wash machine in which he was taking
a bath after fellow workmen had left was thrown into gear. He became imprisoned
in the rapidly revolving tub and immersed into scalding water up to his neck.
After Johnson got into the tub he turned on the steam to increase the
temperature of the water. Apparently his weight in the machine turned on the
power. The momentum threw down the lid and he was rescued only when the owner of
the laundry heard his cries and broke into the room.

CLYDE G. JEFFERS IS SUPERIOR JUDGE
Mr. Clyde G. Jeffers, a native of Hampton, Ia., who was
graduated from the college of law at the University of Iowa in 1905, has been
made judge of the superior court of the state of Washington by Governor Hart.
Mr. Jeffers has been assistant attorney general of Washington
for the past two years.
He married Miss Ruth Nye, also born in Hampton, Ia., in 1908.
They and their five children live at Ephrata, Wash.

Harold Klehm of Ephrata, Wash., arrived in Niles Center March 4 to visit with
his family.

HORACE E. WALKER AT POINT OF DEATH
Former Decatur Man Ill In Ephrata, Wash.
Relatives of Horace E. Walker, former Decatur man and
now residing at Ephrata, Wash., received a message Thursday morning instructing
some of them to come at once as Mr. Walker could not live. His sister-in-law,
Miss Worthy Divan, and his daughter, Miss Edith Walker, left Thursday afternoon
to go to his bedside.
Mr. Walker, who is now about fifty years old, left here
when a very young man and at the present time is a fruit grower at Ephrata. His
father, Edmund Walker, and a sister reside at Blue Mound. Mrs. Walker, who was
miss Jessie Divan before her marriage, died several years ago and was brought
back to Macon for interment.
