MARGARET HARTT
1901-1984
Margaret L. Hartt, at one time a
favorite waitress of legendary gangster Al Capone, died
Wednesday at Naval Hospital Bremerton, Washington. USA
She lived at 1115 Rainier Ave. N. in Bremerton and was 83 yrs of
age .Born July 25, 1901 in Sacranton, Pa., she moved to Chicago
in the mid 1920s and was a waitress at the Old Chicago Athletic
Club, stopping place for Capone.
She married Kenneth Hartt in San Diego April 2, 1931. He was
with the Navy, and the couple lived in many parts of the world,
including Pearl Harbor during World War ll. They settled here
in 1949.
Her husband Kenneth died in 1981.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bremerton. She
also was a past worthy matron of Reliance Chapter No. 70, a
member of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Order of
the Amaranth, a high priestess of the White Shrine, a member of
Estruleta and a past president of the Intercity and Interstate
Garden Club.
She also was a member of the Homemaker Club, Navy Wives and the
Orthopedic Guild. She has been a mother advisor of the
Bremerton Rainbow.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria ( Mrs. Robert ???? and
???? (Mrs. Ed. Walerski of Jackson, Michigan; two sons, Harold
Shoemaker of Pottstown, Pa. and Arthur Shoemaker of
Indianapolis, Ind.; numerous grandchildren and great-grand
children; and one great-great grandson.
Memorial services will be Tuesday at 2 P.M. at the First Baptist
Church. Entombment will be at the Sunrise Terrace Mausoleum at
Forest Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Lewis Funeral
Chapel
