County Information

cluster of approximately 200 islands (172 of which are named). It has rugged, rocky shoreline and several mountains.
Most of the county's population lives on the largest four islands of Orcas, San Juan, Lopez and Shaw Islands. Those
four counties are the only islands served by the Washington State Ferries.
It was part of Whatcom County until October 31, 1873.
