Hitler, worried about the winter snows in Russia, may soon be worrying about the Snows from Belliingham. They are Corporal Arthur B. Snow, Staff Sargent James F. Snow, and Private William H. Snow, all sons of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Snow, 2011 Lindsay Avenue.
Mrs. Snow remarked, "I suppose I will have to send my 'baby'." Her youngest son, Richard is 18.
Corporal Arthur B. Snow recently completed his pre-glider course and received his graduation certificate at Antigo, Wisconsin, where he took thirty hours of flying and twenty-eight hours of ground training. A former Herald carrier, he attended Fairhaven high school after graduation from Lowell grade school. He enlisted in July, 1941, and now is 21 years of age. James F. Snow is a staff sergeant now on duty in England, and Private William H. Snow, last heard from in New York, is believed to be overseas now also. (No date, probably Bellingham Herald)
Arthur B. Snow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus J. Snow, 2011 Lindsay Avenue, has been appointed a flight officer at "Home of the Winged Commandos" at Lubbock, Texas. The news release said the graduating flight officers have completed intensive training in Uncle Sam's large cargo and troop-carrying gliders in one of the largest classes yet to get their wings at the South Plains Army Flying School. With the Service Men, "Gerald Rupert Willett is in the marine corps, on an aircraft carrier "somewhere" on the Pacific. Gerald has been on the sea since August, 1941 and has been in service since February, 1941. His carrier has had battles with the Nippons and is still "fighting", the letter said." Two Bellingham men, T/Sgt. Donald P. Kincaid and Pfc. James F. Snow, members of the Twelfth air force B-26 Marauders group, have been awarded the Croix de Guerre with palm by the French government for precision attacks on bridges in support of the French ground forces in Italy. Oldest medium bomber outfit in the Mediterranean theater, the group was cited in an order by General Charles DeGaulle commending an entire Marauder wing. It is the only A. A. F. unit to be decorated in this way by both the United States and French governments, having previously been cited by President Roosevelt for the accuracy of its attacks on Rome and Florence rail yards.
