P
Peters, Harold Kingston
1930-2007 "King" left us on June 18, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Bellingham after a brief illness. He was born on January 6, 1930 in Seattle to parents Kenneth Kingston and Ruth Janet (Potter). Growing up in West Seattle, his fondest memories were of scouting, which included couseling at Camp parsons and exploring the Olympic Mountains. He also cherished the time he spent roaming the beaches and woods at his family's beloved "Camp" on Camano Island. A 1948 graduate of West Seattle High School, he maintained a strong relationship with his former classmates and was proud to be a longtime member of the Monogram Club. In 1952, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point. Shortly thereafter, he married the love of his life, Camille Peterson. This was the beginning of numerous adventures. Upon retiring from the Army, they returned to Seattle from Germany with the first two of their four children. King became a homebuilder and developer in Seattle. The completion of a large retirement community in White Center, Kingston Village, which he owned and managed for many years was the culmination of his career in the Evergreen State. In 1974, he moved his family to Anchorage, Alaska, where he became a successful real estate developer. He also explored and embraced all the wonders Alaska had to offer. In 1982, he and Camille purchased a classic yacht in the south of France and with their family, sailed it back to Seattle. Their four-month voyage provided a fount of anecdotes and stories for the years to come. Upon reaching home, they spent a year completely retrofitting their beloved Northwind. They lived their dream for the next 12 years, including a trip up the Inside Passage of Alaska to Kodiak Island. After selling Northwind, they eventually settled in Bellingham, Washington to be close to children and grandchildren. King was preceded in death by his parents and also by the tragic death of his son-in-law Peter McDonald in June of 2006 and Pete's "son" Wolfgang in June 2007. He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 55 years, Camille, and daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Allen Francisco of Poulsbo, Washington, son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Karen Peters of Anchorage, Alaska, son and daughter-in-law, Kyle and Susan Peters of Seattle, Washington, and daughter, Kelli McDonald of Bellingham, Washington. Grandchildren, Andrew Francisco, Sunny Peters, and Kameron and Kalen Peters will sorely miss their "Pops." His only great grandchild, Kwynci Shea Peters brought him additional joy and he treasured every moment he was able to spend with her. Kingston Peters was a living example of the West Point motto, "Duty, Honor, Country." Although his death has left a huge hole in the lives of his family and friends, his faith assures us that he is now on the greatest adventure of his life! A private family ceremony will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Seattle.
