Redelfs, Albert Bernard
Albert Bernard Redelfs, age 96 of Sumas, died at St. Joseph Hospital on
Thursday, November 11, 2004. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Nov.
16, at 2:00 pm in the Sumas Advent Christian Church in Sumas with Rev. Carl
Crouse officiating. Burial will follow in Sumas Cemetery. Albert was the first
born son of John Edward and Maud (Almond) Redelfs in Roe Heights, west of
Miller, South Dakota, on June 14, 1908. He moved with his parents, three
brothers and two sisters, and several other families to homesteads in the Pease
Bottom area along the Yellowstone River in Treasure County, Montana in 1914. He
grew up there and attended a one room school and later farmed raising sugar
beets, cattle and some wheat. He left Montana in 1948 and found his way to Sumas
to be with an uncle, Eilert Redelfs. He has been a Sumas resident of the past
fifty-six years. Al owned and operated Redelf's Fuel Oil in Sumas for a number
of years until natural gas replaced the need for stove oil. He then owned and
operated Smith Creek Shake Mill off the Mt. Baker Highway for a number of years
until the demand for cedar was gone. Mr. Redelfs was a strong, independent,
principled, quiet man, ever a good neighbor, ready to offer a helping hand. He
had a precise, exact mind of an engineer and was part of the generation of
builders and inventors of this great nation. He ever enjoyed inventing,
improvising, fixing and building things. He loved to fish and camp out and
travel. He also loved good food and was a fair cook. At the age of 82 he eloped
with Elaine Zobrist and they were married on Memorial Day in 1991 in Idaho.
Albert is survived by his wife Elaine, daughters Rose Thorne of Bellingham, Dr.
Merilyn Nance of Sierra Vista, AZ., Karen and husband Vernon Leibrant of
Everson, Kathleen Dunford of Fresno, CA. and Marsha and husband Max Hart of
Antioch, CA.; step-children Fred and wife Lylaine Zobrist of Tucson, AZ. Millie
and husband John Fonda of Coupeville, WA. and Ellen Michaud, PhD of Kirkland;
eleven grandchildren, twelve great- grandchildren and a great- great-grandchild;
his sister Maud Lohr of Friday Harbor, WA. and numerous other relatives.

Rasmussen, Mona Gayle
A funeral for
Mona Gayle Rasmussen of Ferndale will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Moles
Funeral Home Chapel, 2039 Main St., Ferndale. The Rev. Donald E. Walter will
officiate. Burial will follow at Haynie Cemetery. Mrs. Rasmussen died Saturday,
Sept. 25, 1999, at St. Francis Convalescence Center. She was 66. Born June 5,
1933, to J.D. and Irene (Mullkin) McElory in Dayton, Texas, she was a waitress
in Ferndale for more than 20 years. A member of American Legion Post No. 86, she
enjoyed traveling, long car rides and being with family. She was preceded in
death by daughter Vicki Unick in 1981, son Don Rasmussen in 1987, grandson Rocky
Rasmussen in 1987, and 25-year companion Rick Wilson in 1989. Survivors include
daughter Kathy Lindsay of Bellingham sons Bruce Rasmussen and Doug Rasmussen,
both of Ferndale sisters Renee Gilbert of Custer and Sharon Pollinger of San
Juan Capistrano, Calif. brother Jim McElory of Fullerton, Calif. five
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
