Furnished by : John G. Sharp
Washington Oct 10.1815
Sir
We the subscribers Joiners employed in the Navy Yard , finding that the present wages of
Joiners in Private Employ are Two Dollars & twenty five Cents; whereas ours are but
One Dollar & Seventy five Cents per day.
We therefore ask that we may be allowed Two Dollars per day as long as the
work may continue in the Yard. If you think proper to grant us the same , Youl be
pleased to let us know on Thursday next as We would continue in the Present employ in
Preference to that out of our Neighborhoods as it can be for the Public Interest and more
convenient to our place of Abode

Navy Comm off 11 Oct 1815 Sir Your letter of this days date has been received. It is to apprehended that the blacksmith shop, even at the wages now given, will far exceed the estimate. If however the statement contained in the representation of the Joiners, now at work in the Yard be true, its is but just that their wages should be raised to $ 2 per diem. Resp Jo Rodgers Pres. Comm. Tingey Navy Yard Washington |
