On February 3, 1845, the governor approved an act of the Legislature of the Territory of Wisconsin, dividing Crawford County and organized Chippewa County. Geographically, the Chippewa County of 1846 extended all the way from Lake Pepin on the Mississippi River Wisconsin became a state in 1848, the Legislature revised the western boundary of Chippewa County so that it was almost a straight line from just south of what is now Solon Springs in Douglas County to the present village of Maiden Rock on Lake Pepin. Chippewa County boundaries have been refined and redrawn so many times |
