Hemp, Adolph March 14, 1865 - December 18, 1919
Adolph Hemp died Dec. 18, 1919, after about a month illness from pneumonia, which despite every medical
treatment and the best nursing.
Adolph Augustus Hemp was born in Arnswalde, Brandenburg, Germany, March 14, 1866. When a small boy he came
to this country and has lived in Clark County, Wis. ever since. On Oct. 14, 1889, he was married to Miss Ella Christie.
For several years they lived on their farm north of the city, and 13 years ago they moved to Neillsville, which
has been their home since. Mr. Hemp was a good farmer and also possessed much mechanical skill. As proprietor of
the planing mill he was much liked for his accommodating manner and his ability to do good work. In all his activities
Mr. Hemp contributed in many ways to the development of this community and was a most useful man.
He leaves his wife, and one daughter, Mrs. Chas. Neff of the town of Levis. He leaves also five brothers:
Fred, Albert, Ernst, Frank and Tony; and two sisters, Mrs. Aug. Wagner and Mrs. Gus Grap.
The burial services were conducted at the Reformed Church on Monday afternoon. The great number present
at the services bears a silent testimony to the countless friendships the deceased had made during his earthly

Amanda Hemp, 73, La Crosse, died Feb. 9, 1990, at Bethany St. Joseph's Nursing Home, La Crosse. Funeral
services were held Monday, Feb. 12, 1990, at Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. Rev. Erik Zingleman officiated.
Burial was in Neillsville City Cemetery. Family members and friends served as pallbearers.
Amanda (Kuester) Hemp was born June 26, 1915, in the Town of York to Ferdinand and Anna (Bub) Kuester. She
married John Hemp on Sept. 6, 1932, in Neillsville. He died Aug. 13, 1977. She was a member of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Black River Falls.
Surviving her are one son, Ronald Hemp, La Crosse five sisters, Sadie O'Brien, Neillsville; Isabelle DeMert,
Neillsville; Annie Zabler, West Allis; Beulah Landerman, Kenosha; Minnie Grap, Milwaukee; four grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, one son (John), two grandchildren, two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

Mrs. Augusta Hemp died at the home of her daughter in Weston, Clark County, June 15th, 1914, aged 80 years,
6 months and 29 days.
Deceased was born in Germany, her maiden name being Augusta Scheel. She grew to womanhood there and was
married to Ludwig Hemp in 1854. They came to America in 1871, and settled on a farm in the town of Weston, which
has been their home since. Her husband died in 1885 {May 09, 1895?}, and she continued to manage the farm with
the aid of the children. Of their family of twelve children, nine are still living, namely: Otto, Fred, Louise
(Mrs. Wegner), Adolph, Albert, Ernest, Anna (Mrs. Grap), Frank and Tony. She leaves also 34 grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hemp was one of that grand types of women who have done much in their everyday life to make the world
better in many ways. To her industry and high Christian character, no only her family, but the entire community
owes a debt of gratitude.
The funeral will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Globe Lutheran Church, Rev. H. Brandt

Neillsville - Ella G. Hemp, age 97, of Neillsville, Clark County died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at the Memorial
Nursing Home in Neillsville.
Ella Gertrude Hoffmann was born on March 1, 1905, in the Town of Weston, Clark County, the daughter of Franz
and Martha (Kalsow) Hoffmann. She attended the Globe Grade School and then in 1920 she began working as a housekeeper
for several families in the area. On June 10, 1925, she was united in marriage to Herman A. Hemp. They farmed in
the town of Weston until 1970 at which time they retired and moved to town. Ella was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical
Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid in Globe. She was a Gray lady, Hospital Volunteer from 1970 until 1996 and her
hobbies included crocheting, cards and gardening.
Survivors include one daughter, Marian (Fred) Vornholt of Neillsville, one son, Robert (Jean) Hemp of San
Antonio, Texas, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, Heldagarde and Erna and three brothers,
William, Carl and Frank.
Funeral Services for Ella will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church
in Globe. Pastor Kevin Hanke will officiate. Music will be provided by Karen Hoppa, organist Dawn Thoma and Pastor
Kevin Hanke, vocalists. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00
a.m., Thursday at the Church.
Casket Bearers are: Kurt Hediger, Jim Hemp, Gordon Thoma, John Vornholt, Mark Vornholt and Paul Vornholt.

Neillsville - Services for John G. Hemp, 65, Merrillan, who died early Saturday following a heart attack,
will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. The Rev. Erik Zingleman of Black River
Falls will officiate and burial will be in the Neillsville Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. today and Tuesday
morning at the funeral home.
Mr. Hemp was born Sept. 1, 1911 in the Globe area in Clark County where he received his education. He farmed
in the area for several eyars before moving to La Crosse where he worked for Gateway Transportation Co. He worked
there for about 20 years, retiring in 1966.
He moved to Hatfield in 1968. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Black River Falls. He
married Amanda Kuester Sept. 24, 1932 in Neillsville, She survives.
Besides his widow, he is survived by one son Ronald, of La Crosse; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Poppe and Mrs.
Clara Mitte, both of Neillsville; three brothers, Leo of Neillsville, Arthur of Junction City and Paul of Rochester,
Minn., and five grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hemp mourn the death of their little son, Leon, who died June 27, 1920, at the Marshfield
Hospital, aged 5 years, 2 months and 22 days. He was a bright and beautiful little boy and the whole community
sympathizes with Mr. and Mrs. Hemp in their bereavement.
Funeral services were held in St. John's Lutheran Church and burial took place in the Neillsville Cemetery. Obituary of Herman "Louis" Louis Hemp

Hemp, Louis Herman
Louis Herman Hemp was born on Aug. 7, 1887, in the Town of Pine Valley. Here he attended the Mound school
until he moved to this city with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hemp, in 1905. He received his religious instructions
by the Sainted Rev. H. Brandt, and was confirmed in the year 1908 in an adult class. Mr. Hemp entered the estate
of holy matrimony with Miss Emma Krejci on April 22, 1914. This union was blessed with three sons, one son, Leon,
preceded his father in death on June 27, 1920, at the age of five years.
About six years ago the departed was compelled to resign his position at the Deep Rock oil station on account
of ill health. Though the best of medical care was given him, yet the physicians soon pronounced that an incurable
sickness had fastened itself upon him. He became and invalid and was care for by his beloved ones with untiring
and patient efforts. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hemp shared life's journey for 20 years, 11 months and 14 days. Last Saturday
morning at 2 o'clock he departed, closed his eyes in death, having attained the age of 47 years, seven months and
29 days.
He leaves to mourn his early departure his widow, two sons, Warren and Marvin; his father, Mr. Fred Hemp;
one sister, Mrs. Helen Jahr, one brother, William Hemp; all residing in our city. He also leaves a large number
of other relatives and a host of friends.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rev. Wm. Baumann officiating.

Marvin L. Hemp, 77, Neillsville, died on Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. Music was
provided by Eileen Zank, organist, and Jodi Rueth, soloist. Pallbearers were his grandsons.
Marvin L. Hemp was born on May 9, 1925, in Eau Claire, to Louis and Emma (nee Krejci) Hemp. He attended
Neillsville schools and graduated from Neillsville High School in 1942. He went to Green Bay and worked as a welder
at the shipyards for a short time. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and in 1943, completed pilots training and
then attended engineering school in Mission, Texas. He was discharged from the service in 1945. He attended UW-Madison,
graduating in 1949. He married Mae Bender on Sept. 10, 1949, in Dubuque, Iowa. He worked at the Farmers Store in
Neillsville from February 1951 to January 1962. He was assistant highway commissioner for Clark County. He was
then elected county highway commissioner in November 1962 and served in that job until his retirement in December
1989. His interests included hunting, fishing and spending time at his cottage on Lake Arbutus.
Survivors include his wife, Mae; four sons, Michael (Randi) Hemp, Hatfield, Mark (Linda) Hemp, Neillsville,
Matthew (Leslie) Hemp, Neillsville, and Merlin (Chris Bayer) Hemp, Neillsville; seven grandchildren, Stefanie,
Joshua, Andrew, Shawn, Jonathan, Lucas and Max; and one sister-in-law, Irene Hemp, Neillsville.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Leon Hemp and Warren Hemp; and a granddaughter, Kailey
Jade.

Henry Gottlieb Spiegel, one of the old settlers of the town of Grant, Clark County, Wis., died at his home
Feb. 3, 1921 at 10:30 a.m. He was born in Germany Feb. 3, 1843, and came to America Oct. 28, 1862. On July 18,
1872 he was married to Johanna Schoengarth, who survives him. For many years he carried on his farm in the town
of Grant. He was an honest hard working man, a kind husband and father and a good neighbor. He leaves besides his
wife, eight children: Charles, Ida, Edward, Martha, Henry, August, Alfred and Clara. He leaves also 9 grandchildren
and one great-grandchild. The funeral was held at the Congregational Church Sunday afternoon, Rev. G. W. Longenecker

Krejci, Frank M.
Mr. Frank M. Krejci died at his home in the town of York, Clark County, Wis. last Sunday, June 16, 1918,
after an illness of about a year. He was born in Newberg, Washington Co., Wis. and was 58 years, 7 months and 12
days old.
He married Miss Anna Helen Schafer Nov. 10, 1886, and with his wife moved to Clark County the same year
and settled in the town of York, where he spent the remainder of his life.
There remain to mourn his loss his wife and six children. Victor, Mrs. Louis Hemp of Neillsville, Mr. Geo.
Hales of the town of York, Tom, Estelle and Edwin, also his brothers, Joseph and Louis Krejci, both of Milwaukee,
and Mr. Jim Krejci of Saukville, Wis. and a sister, Mrs. Anna Kopecky of Wabeno, Wis.
The funeral services were held Wednesday at the residence, Rev. G. W. Longenecker, the Congregational minister
of Neillsville, officiating. Interment was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.
