ESTHER M (ST. JACQUE) DICAIRE Birth: 1816 Prescott County Ontario, Canada Esther (St. Jacque) Dicaire was born at L Orignal, Prescott, Ontario in 1816. She was the mother of tinsmith and storekeeper Peter Mitchael Dicaire..Esther was married to Peter's father, Felix Dicaire, in 1888 at L Orignal, Prescott, Ontario and was widowed on July 11, 1856. She came to Prairie du Chien in July 1855, after her son Peter had been kidnapped. She recovered him and they moved to Prairie du Chien where she raised her family and lived here 12 years. She spent her life caring for her family, and seeing to the education of her children. She passed this world in 1908 at Chippewa Falls, Chippewa County, Wisconsin. PETER MITCHAEL DICAIRE AND ALICE REGINA (FRIEDERICH) DICAIRE Birth: Jan. 29, 1851 Elk, Ontario, Canada Peter Mitchael Dicaire was born to his parents Felix Dicaire and Ms. Esther M. St. Jacque of Elk, Ontario, Canada. Peter M. was stolen from his mother when he was four years old. A stranger asked him to take a ride in a two-wheeled cart, which he did, and was kidnapped and taken away to Ottawa City. He was kept there eight months. His mother recovered him and took him to Prairie du Chien in July 1855, where he was educated, he lived there for twelve years. Peter moved to Chippewa Falls on August 26, 1867. His brother came with him, and they worked to the Pound, Halbert & Company's mills until August 31, 1871, when he began an apprenticeship in the tinner's trade, working in a tin shop until he started his own business. On May 13, 1885 Peter married Alice Regina Friederich, daughter of Marcus Friederich and Christina Frankenhoff at Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. Alice and Peter had five children: -Christine E. Dicaire in 1886 -Alice Cecilia Dicaire in 1888 -Bertha Magdeline Dicaire in 1891 -Clara Dicaire in 1893 -Marcus Friederich Dicaire in 1896. Peter later moved his family to Bessemer Michigan because of the flood and then on up the Mississippi river to Bemidji Minnesota in 1906 where he operated a general store and raised his family. He died on Jan. 1, 1934 and is buried at Holy Cross (Catholic) Cemetery in Bemidji. OBITUARY: Peter Mitchael Dicaire - Bemidji Pioneer. P. M. Dicaire one of the oldest residents of Bemidji, passed away at his home here about 6 o'clock Monday evening after an illness of about three weeks. He will be laid to rest in Holy Cross cemetery Thursday morning following funeral services at St. Phillip's church at 9 o'clock Rev. J. Fraling officiating. Born June 29, 1851 at Ottowa, Canada, the deceased was 82 years old. He had lived in Bemidji for the last 35 years, during which time he took an active interest in the affairs of the city, and was well known to a large number of it's residents as proprietor of a grocery store at 1101 Irvine Ave. Surviving relatives include his widow Mrs. Alice Dicaire, four daughters, Christine Dicaire, Mrs. Joseph Wolters of Couer d' Alene, Idaho, Mrs. Alice Gertson of Grand Forks, and Mrs. O. W. Grimm of Bemidji, and one son, Marcus. The body will lie in state at the McGrath and Pickett chapel until the time of the funeral.

MARCUS FRIEDERICH AND CHRISTINA (FRANKENHOFF) FRIEDERICH
Born on December 13, 1833 in Baden, Germany to Johannes Friederich and Regina Dorr. He was christened in the Catholic faith on December 13, 1833, as an infant, in Mühlbach, Heidelberg, Baden, Germany. He served his apprenticeship to the harness and saddler's trade in Germany, and in 1854, aged about 20, he immigrated to the United States. He worked his trade at Portage City, Wisconsin, and also at Madison, Wisconsin, as well as at Dubuque, Iowa. In the fall of 1855 he came to Prairie du Chien and worked as a journeyman harness maker until the spring of 1856, aged about 22, when he became a businessman after buying his employers harness making business. He worked his business for a number of years at Prairie du Chien, employing from four to six men, manufacturing light and heavy harnesses, and general saddlery. He carried an average stock of from $2,000 to $3,000, and he was was an active member of the community. Note: A newspaper article in the Milwaukee Sunday Journal on November 26, 1922 records that (Pa) John Ringling (founder of Ringling Bros. Circus) was employed by Marcus Friederich in 1854. At age 23, Marcus Friederich, married Christina Frankenhoff, aged 18, on 14 May 1857 at Ft. Crawford, Prairie du Chien, Crawford County, Wisconsin. Christina was born on September 15, 1838 in Prussia. They had twelve children: 1. 1858 - Mary C. Friederich - Mary C. died June 26, 1858, age 3 mo,6 dys, and is Buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Prairie du Chien. 2. 1859 - Emily E. Friederich - Emily E. died Aug 1, 1861, age 2 yrs, 1 mo, 3dys, and is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Prairie du Chien. 3. 1862 - Alice Regina Friederich - Alice died November 8, 1950, at 88 years at Bemidji, MN and is buried there at Holy Cross cemetery. 4. 1864 - Bertha Gertrude Friederich 5. 1865 - John M. Friederich 6. 1867 - Gertrude E. Friederich 7. 1870 - Heinrich (Henry) W. Friederich 8. 1873 - Alexander Friederich 9. 1873 - Mary C. Friederich 10. 1875 - George B. Friederich 11. 1878 - William E. (Willie) Friederich - Willie died July 28, 1879, age 8m, 6d, twin, and is Buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Prairie du Chien. 12. 1878 - Wilhelmina (Minnie) Friederich - Minnie died July 25,1879, age 8m, 3d, twin, and is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Prairie du Chien. Marcus Friederich was a member of the Freemasons: Freemasonry Records indicate: 06/01/1881 - Entered Apprenticeship - 1st Degree 10/15/1881 - Fellow Craft - 2nd Degree 11/10/1881 - Master Mason - 3rd Degree 04/17/1915 –Marcus Friederich died, member of Prairie du Chien Lodge No. 106 F. & A.M. of Wisconsin at the time of his death. Marcus Friederich died on April 17, 1915 age at death - 81 yrs, 4 mo., according to cemetery records at Prarie Du Chien. He is buried at Evergreen Cemetery, Prairie du Chien, Crawford County, Wisconsin.
