LOGS AND LUMBER.
Eau Claire, July 12.—The lumbermen have made no efforts to secure any of the hung-up logs on the present rise, but are seemingly satisfied with the starting of millions of feet that were grounded between the Beef slough works and the sources of the rivers. On Popple river, O'Neill's creek and other tributaries of the Black river crews are at work cleaning out the logs left behind, and their efforts, it is said, will be attended with
success. The water in the Chippewa and Eau Claire is going down rapidly, and in a couple of days will be at their lowest stage again. , [Wisconsin State Journal July 17, 1883 - Sub. by a Friend of Free Genealogy]

RETURNS TO CIVIL LIFE

Capt. William O. Seeman, late of Fort Riley, Kansas, returned on Saturday to Eau Claire and has again taken up his duties as a civilian physician.  Fort Riley has been looked upon as the great training camp for the medical officers, and it was "the great life" for those who could stand it, the medics being put through nearly as strenuous a drill schedule and as severe marches as were the enlisted soldiers themselves.  Capt. Seeman looks well tanned and appears to have lost any superflous besh he may have had in the days of old.
