Sanders Cochrane Obituary

Sanders Cochrane was born in Glascow, Scotland, November, 1825.  He came to America at the age of 19 and drifted to the then far west, northern Wisconsin and engaged in the lumbering, and afterwards, in the real estate business.  He was one among the first to answer his country’s call and enlisted in Company G, 16 Reg. Wisconsin Vol. Infantry, afterwards re-enlisting.  He served, in all, 3 years and 8 months, being mustered out in July 1865.  He was wounded in the battle of Shiloh and while home on a furlough recruited over 100 men.

He and family moved from Eau Claire, Wis., to Wichita, Kans., April 1874 and soon afterwards secured a homestead in Haven township, Reno county, Kans.

He always took a great interest in political and governmental affairs, contributing largely to the press on these subjects being at one time on the staff of the Hutchinson News.  He wrote a history of Reno county by observation and many other writings that published in pamphlet form.

He was married on Sept. 2, 1862, to Martha E. Willis in the town of Brunswick, Wis.  Five children were born to them, two sons and three daughters, three living in Jefferson, O. T. and two in Haven.  He leaves these and a wife to mourn his loss.
