A new Postoffice was est. at Rockville Wayne, County, W. VA on the Route from Huntington to Wayne Court House. With Noah ADKINS as postmaster.

Thursday night a freight train on the C. W. & B., which left Parkersburg about ten o'clock at night, ran over a horse just west of Guysville. The engine and two or three cars went on all right, but about the fourth car was thrown from the track, dragging the balance of the train with it, and jumping on the bridge tearing that structure down, and dumping about a dozen cars in the river. No person was hurt, but the damage to the railroad company will amount to several thousand dollars.

The work of grading the West Virginia railroad from the Pennsylvania line through Preston county to Newburg, on the B. & O., is to be commenced at once. The road will be forty miles long The Company let a contract for 5,000 tons of steel rails with the Pennsylvania steel works, at Harrisburg.

The tannery of Fayerweather & Laden, at Davis, is rapidly approaching completion. This will be by far the largest tannery in the State, there being but one larger in the United States, and will furnish employment to five hundred men.

The Ohio River Railroad Company is laying about 100 tons of rails per day in Jackson county. Work may have to be suspended shortly until a rise in the river enables the contractors to get more rail from Pittsburg.
