Another landmark ranch is the(Ship-wheel) owned by E.W. Whitcomb, currently owned by Chuck and Charlotte Pollard. This ranch once boasted one of the largest Shetland pony herds around.

The sheepmen came to the county in 1900. The Empire Sheep Company with Silas Guthrie as manager was one of the largest. This ranch is now owned by L.A. McCul-lough. Two ranches, Pool and Carpenter Sheep Company and the C W which were located at the head of Little Powder River, no longer exist. The Prairie Creek ranch is now the home of Patsye and Edwin "Buster" Brown.

Homesteaders came to Moorcroft, between 1912 and 1920. A good percent of them became discouraged with CrookCounty's un­favorable farming weather and left. Remnants of their backbreaking efforts for domesti­cating the land still stand.

Some interesting early vital statistics in­clude: first baby born in the town, Helen Robinson Zimmerschied; first person buried in the Moorcroft cemetery, Diamond Joe Thompson; known shootings were during the 1880's, Coyote Bill was shot by a man named
