TO  OUR  FORE BEARERS

To those who trod the Indian trail

or came by wagon train.

To those who rode the Iron Horse

or came for miner’s gain.

To those inclined to build a town

or toil in honest trade.

To those who came to till the soil

or sturdy homestead made.

We honor all who settled here

resolved no more to roam.

Who put down roots and satisfied,

made this place home.

For all of us who live here now

‘tis joy to contemplate

the lives of those who lived here then

before this was a state.

In kind remembrance we set forth

their story for today

and pass it on for those to come

who follow on life’s way.

The poem was written by Jack E Smith)and transcribed by Kari.
