The soda ash or natron of the region gave Natrona County its name. Casper is the County Seat of the County which was created May18, 1888 and organized April 12, 1890

Natrona County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wyoming. As of the 2000 census, the population was 66,533. Its county seat is Casper[. It is included in the Casper, Wyoming metropolitan statistical area which encompasses all of Natrona County. The center of population of Wyoming is located in Natrona County, in the town of Alcova

 Casper is the only city in and the county seat of Natrona County, Wyoming, United States,[3] although the county is home to a number of small towns and Casper suburbs. With a population of 49,644, Casper is the second largest city in Wyoming.. The city is located in east-central Wyoming at the foot of Casper Mountain, the north end of the Laramie
Mountain Range, along the North Platte River. Interstate 25 approaches Casper from the North and South and is the main avenue of transportation to and from the city. The towns immediately adjacent to Casper are Mills, Evansville, Bar Nunn, and Mountain View.
Unincorporated areas include Allendale, Dempsey Acres, Red Buttes, Indian Springs, and several others.

Casper Mountain is a long mountain at the north end of the Laramie Mountains overlooking Casper, Wyoming along the North Platte River. At a top elevation of 8130 feet, the mountain rises approximately 3000 feet above Casper.
Unlike many mountains in Wyoming, Casper Mountain is largely privately owned, however there are still several miles worth of canyons and hills for the adventurous backpacker.

John M. Trevett, born in Ireland, operated a confectionary store and later was the contractor for

Glenrock, 26 miles east of Casper, was originally known as Deer Creek Station or Deer Spring. established at the confluence of Deer Creek and the North Platte in 1857. The Station was established in 1857 at the confluence of Deer Creek and the North Platte. In addtion to the stage station there was a blacksmith and post office. Sir Richard Burton in his 1860 journey also noted the presence of a "grog shop."deercreekstatION The saloon was owned by early mountain man Joseph Bissonette. Bissonette was a member of Manuel Lisa's expedition of 1812-1813 and served as an interpreter for Steven Long's 1819-1820 exploration of parts of present day Oklahoma,
Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado. He also participated for a short distance for Fremont's first expedition. Later the Deer Creek Station served as a pony express, telegraph station and as starting point for the Bozeman Trail. By 1865, the Indians had become restless and there were frequent problems of the telegraph line being cut and guards killed. In 1866, the Station was burned.
