FINCH, George------The remains of George Finch, who| passed away at his home at Burnt Fork, Wednesday of last week, were brought to this city, and laid to rest in the Green River cemetery Monday afternoon.  The funeral services were held from the Episcopal church. Rev. Ward conducting the service, which were attended by friends of the deceased from all over the country.  George Finch was born and raised in this country, and his sixty years of life, were very useful in assisting in building-up the county and state in which he resided. He was the father of twelve children, eleven of which with his good wife survive him. and mourn his untimely passing.  The Star joins in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.(January 10, 1919 The Green River Star Tribune)

FINCH. Nora----The third death in the last twelve months, to rend the hearts of this family of Mrs. Geo. Finch of l.inwood, Utah occurred last Sunday, when the youngest daughter, Miss Nora, aged eighteen years, passed away in the Wyoming General Hospital at Rock Springs, following an operation   for    appendicitis. The father, and a son, passed away only a few months ago, the later passing in the service of his country. Indeed this family has had their share. of sorrow, and has the heartfelt sympathy of all.  The remains of the daughter were brought to this city and the funeral held from the Episcopal Church, Rev.  W. H. Ward conducting the service, and the remains laid to rest beside the father and brother in the new Green River cemetery.  (June 20, 1919 Friday Green River Star)

FITTON, Robert The funeral of Robert Fitton occurred at Elk's home on Monday morning at 10 o'clock and was largely attended by the members of local lodge, and by his many friends in the city and a number attended from Green River. Rev. T. J. Tramel of the Methodist Church preached the sermon. Left to mourn his loss are his wife, two daughters and a son who have the sympathy of a large group of friends. Deceased was well and favorably known, having made a host of friends during his residence here. His first business association was at the J. P. McDermott Company store, and at the time of his death was manager of the Union Mercantile company dry goods department. Mrs. B. Woodward of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Mrs. Anna Hesley of Los Angeles, California, sisters of the deceased and Mrs. Graham of Laramie attended the funeral. Friday February 18, 1916 Rock Springs Rocket

FREEMAN, John Another sturdy old Scotsman and pioneer of Rock Springs has passed away in the person of John Freeman, who died at the residence of his sister-in law. Mrs. Mike Freeman, on Tuesday morning; Although Mr Freeman had been In bad health for some time he was always able to be about and his death came as a shock to his friends.. The cause of death was stomach trouble. Mr. Freeman was born in Ayrshire, Scotland 56 years ago.. He emigrated to this country while quite a young man and after spending two years in the east he came to Rock Sprlngs where he has made his home for thirty years. For several years he worked in the mines but was ultimately appointed sheep inspector for this county and afterward became foreman on the Bates ranch. He is survived by a wife and three Children.. Annie. Helen and David, all of whom reside in Salt Lake City A brother and two sisters also reside in this country-Bryce Freeman, of Superior; and Mrs. Corrigan, of Park City, and Mrs David Muir of Muskogee, Oklahoma. John was a thorough Scott. cherry honest, openhearted, freehanded, always ready to help anyone less fortunate than himself. He was greatly respected by all with whom he came in contact and a large circle of friends will mourn his loss.. GAMBLE,  Gene Lewis  71, of HCR 65 Box 730, McKinnon, died on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at his home. He was a lifelong resident of McKinnon. He was born on June 12, 1933, in Rock Springs, the son of Earl and Alta Stoll Gamble. Gamble attended schools in McKinnon and Green River and was a graduate of the Green River High School in 1951. He was a self-employed rancher. His interests included cowboying and rodeoing. It has been said that he was one of the best cowboys and top calf roper.
Survivors include two sons, William Earl Gamble and George B. Gamble, both of McKinnon; three daughters, Ann Marie Anderson of Corvallis, Ore., Laura Jean Hogan of Beaverton, Ore., and Mary Sue Madrishin of Moses Lake, Wash.; one sister-in-law, Norma Gamble of McKinnon; 26 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one niece, Karen Lewis of Green River; and three great-nephews, Kim Lewis, Rob Lewis and Conn Lewis. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert Gamble and Bill Gamble. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at the Riverview Cemetery in Green River. Bishop John Wilde will conduct the services.

GAMBLE, Norma Ellen Buckles 83, of Green River, died on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center. She was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Green River, the daughter of Henry Edward Buck Buckles and Sarah Ellen Sadie McConaghy Buckles of Reliance  She was a lifelong resident of Sweetwater County. When she was 2 years old her family moved to Reliance. She grew up and attended schools in Reliance. She graduated from Reliance High School as valedictorian in 1938. She attended the University of Wyoming from 1938-1940, receiving a normal diploma in elementary education. She finished getting her degree the hard way, by taking correspondence courses and on-campus classes, receiving her degree in 1964.
While living in Reliance, she was on the first aid team, which is comparable to the Mine Rescue Teams of today. They had a girls first aid team and a boys first aid team. They would go into Rock Springs and have contests between Reliance, Superior and Winton. Mrs. Gamble said she could still remember how to tie a square knot and how to splint a break. Their team won several times.
She started her teaching career in Burntfork in 1940. When she first moved to Burntfork, she lived with Jerrine Rupert and Jerrines father, Clyde Stewart. Mrs. Rupert was the daughter of Eleanor Pruitt Stewart, who wrote Letters of A Woman Homesteader. When Mrs. Rupert married and moved to Philadelphia, Mrs. Gamble moved in with Anna and Cleo Terry. The second year of teaching she lived with Orson and Christena Behunin.
She met her husband, Robert Bob Gamble while teaching in Burntfork. He was from one of the well-known families who homesteaded in Burntfork. They were married on Feb. 21, 1942, in Randolph, Utah. They had one daughter, Karen Lewis of Green River; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
Mrs. Gamble taught school for more than 39 years in the Burntfork and McKinnon area. She taught kindergarten through eighth grade at different times. She served as head teacher for many years, which meant working with the students and acting as principal.
Mrs. Gamble was initiated into the Eastern Star in 1940 by her mother, who was Worthy Matron at that time. She received her 50-year pin in Eastern Star in 1990.
Mrs. Gamble was a member of the first County Fair Board in 1947. She served as secretary of the County 4-H Council in the 1950s. She was a 4-H leader for many years. She helped organize the Sweetwater Cowbelles and served as president for five years. In 1988 she was candidate for Cattle Person of the Year. In 1987 she was chosen as Homemaker of the Year.
In 1990 Mrs. Gamble served as co-chairman of the McKinnon Centennial Celebration. She also co-authored with Francie Anderson Links to the Past, an anthology of memories past and present of the residents in the Burntfork and McKinnon area. In 1991 she was awarded the Susan J. Quealy Award for outstanding Leadership in the Extension Home Economics Program. Mrs. Gamble was also on the advisory board of the Western Wyoming College.
She began her haying career with a team mowing hay and retired as hydra-loader operator.
Her interests included fishing with her grandsons, tying flies and preparing clues for the annual family treasure hunt at Easter   Survivors include one daughter, Karen Lewis of Green River; three grandsons, Kim Lewis and wife Kerri, Rob Lewis and wife Nita, all of Green River and Con Lewis and wife Aimee of Cheyenne; four great-grandchildren, Kayla, Bobby, Kylee and Kendra Lewis; three step-grandchildren, Joe, Jake and Kayla Wininger; one great-great-granddaughter, Brittni Cherry Wininger; and eight nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Gamble; her son-in-law, Don Lewis; her parents, Henry Edward Buck Buckles and Sarah Ellen Sadie McConaghy Buckles; three sisters, Rachel Eldora in infancy, Ione Belle and husband Rene Jake Jacobs, Rachel McConaghy Jorgensen and husband Carl T.L.; two brothers, Harry Edward Buckles and wife Penny, John Warren Buckles and wife Louise; two brothers-in-law, Gene Gamble and Bill Gamble; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Earl and Alta Gamble.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 900 Hitching Post Drive, Green River. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Sheridan will officiate. A prayer service was conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Friends may call at the church Tuesday morning one hour prior to services.

GAVIOTIS, Liberty devoted wife, beloved mother, Yia Yia and friend, fell asleep with the Lord on August 16, 2004 following a lengthy illness. Liberty and her twin sister and best friend Dorothy Ladakis-Kogianes were born on December 10, 1924 in Hanna, Wyoming, the daughter of the late Manuel and Katina Ladakis. Liberty attended schools in Hanna, Wyoming and Murray, Utah and graduated from Murray High School in 1944. She married Joseph M. Gaviotis in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 6, 1955. Together they had four wonderful children, Ellen who died in infancy, Mike, George and Maria. The Gaviotis Family moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1963 and this became Liberty's life long home. Liberty held several part-time positions in the community, but the job that she took the most pride in was that of devoted wife, mother and cherished Yia Yia (grandmother). Her husband, children, and grandchildren were truly her life treasures. Our Mom was a wonderful cook and baker. Family and friends took great pleasure in many Greek Pastries that she made with love and generously shared with all. She was a member of the Pan Cretan Association and a faithful member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Liberty is survived by her devoted and ever-caring husband of forty-nine and a half years, Joseph M. Gaviotis of Rock Springs, Wyoming, two sons Mike "Zeus" Gaviotis and wife Monika and George Gaviotis and wife Jenny all of Rock Springs Wyoming; one daughter Maria Gamvroulas and husband Steven "Telly"; nine grandchildren, Peter, Eleni, Pisti and Elpitha Gamvroulas all of Salt Lake City, Utah, Liberty, Maria, Paula and Andrew Gaviotis, and Sandra Cheeseman of Rock Springs, Wyoming, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Katina Ladakis, one daughter who died in infancy Ellen Gaviotis, her twin sister Dorothy Kogianes, two brothers, Tony and John Ladakis. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 405 "N" Street, Rock Springs, Wyoming. A Prayer Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk Street, Rock Springs, Wyoming. Interment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call at the Vase Chapel, Wednesday afternoon and evening until 8:00 p.m. and at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Thursday morning until the time of services.

GRAHAM Dale James  75, of 640 Sweetwater Lane, Green River, died on Monday, March 14, 2005, at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs. A longtime resident of Green River and former resident of Star Valley, Graham died following a brief illness.  He was born on May 18, 1929, in Afton, the son of Harold V. and Glennis Bruce Graham. Graham attended schools in Star Valley and was a graduate of the Star Valley High School with the class of 1947.  He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.  Graham married Myrna Jasperson in Thayne on Nov. 10, 1951.  He worked as a warehouse supervisor at FMC Corporation for 27 years until his retirement in 1990. He also worked for Winlectric.  Graham was a member of the LDS Church. His interests included gardening, camping, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He shared his garden with his friends and neighbors and took his grandchildren and great-grandchildren camping and fishing. He was also an avid bowler.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bret Graham and wife Terry of Lawrence, Kan., and David J. Graham and wife Mary of Green River; one daughter, Michele Voyles of Hamilton, Iowa; three sisters, Marie Gramata of OroGrande, Calif., Carol Kennington of Oceanside, Calif., and Atha Johnson of Afton; seven grandchildren, Kandy and Tracy Pryor, Nichole Voyles, Leisa and Kurtiss Riggs, Glennis and Dennis Williams, Travis and Jodi Graham, Hope and Travis Bradshaw and Darin Graham; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sons-in-law.  Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, at the LDS 3rd Ward, 1000 W. Fourth N., Green River. Military graveside services and interment will be conducted by American Legion Archie Hay Post No. 24 at the Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel, 263 E. Flaming Gorge Way, Thursday, March 17, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. and Friday at the church one hour prior to services.

GRAHAM, Ruby Kidman died in Rock Springs, Wyoming on October 7, 1995 of complications following a stroke suffered in April 1995. She was born in Mountain View, Wyoming, on February 25, 1906, she was the daughter of Robert William and Jessie Cunningham Kidman. She married William Evan Graham in Evanston, Wyo. December 26, 1922, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She was active in the LDS Church serving as the Relief Society and Primary president. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Eldon; her parents and 12 brothers and sisters. She is survived by daughters, Belva (John) Amos, of South San Francisco; Mabel (Karl) Winsness, of Las Vegas; and a son, Blaine (Priscilla) Graham of Rock Springs; she has 13 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 22 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren; she had numerous nieces, nephews and other loved ones. The funeral services will be held in Rock Springs, Wyoming on Saturday, October 14, 1995 at the LDS Stake Center at 10 a.m.; a viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Vase Mortuary Friday and one hour preceding services at the chapel. Burial will be at the Rock Springs Cemetery.

GREEN Edna Louise  76, of 1300 New Hampshire Space 13, Rock Springs, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at her home. A resident of Rock Springs for the past five years and former resident of Superior, and Springfield, Ill., Mrs. Green had been in ill health for the past six months.  She was born on Aug. 18, 1927, in Jacksonville, Ill., the daughter of the late Melvin Jerome Page and Mary Ellen Prehoda.  Mrs. Green attended schools in Illinois.  She married William Courtney Green in Superior on Feb. 5, 1946, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1983.  Mrs. Green worked in the laundry department for the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County for many years until her retirement in 1992.  Her interests included sewing and crocheting.  She was a member of the Horizon Fellowship s.b.c.  Survivors include three sons, Mark William Green of Superior, Norbert Edward Green and wife Theresa of Bend, Ore., and Michael Anthony Green and wife Paula of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters, Linda Ellen Bolles of Rock Springs and Julia Ann Martin and husband Craig of Orion, Ill.; two sisters, Dorothy Ellen Burge of Lincoln, Ill., and Almyra Jean Finn of Springfield, Ill.; 17 grandchildren, Keven Rigney, Terry Brown and husband Mitchell, Tonya Baluska, Christopher Martin and wife Tara, Scott Martin, Jerimiah Green, Amanda Green, Verna Reed, Andrew Green, Jacob Green, Leland Green and wife Michelle, Jared Green, Lance Green, Kyle Green, Erin Green, Mitchell Green and Jonathan Green; and seven great-grandchildren, Courtney Baluska, Tristin Baluska, Jacob Baluska, Daryn Kate Martin, Aletha Schultz, Shayleigh Green and Dakota Lacy Reed.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Larry Page; and one grandson, Scott Baluska.  Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Interment will be in the Paul J. Wataha Section of the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel one hour prior to services

GREGORY, Francis “Frank” Langton 93, of 425 N. Eighth W., Green River, died on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at his home. A longtime resident of Green River and former resident of Lonetree, Gregory died following a brief illness. He was born on March 2, 1909, in Salt Lake City, the son of the late Herbert Joshua and Susan Lavina Easton Gregory.  He attended schools in Salt Lake City and was a graduate of the West High School with the class of 1928. He married Veloy C. Terry in Salt Lake City on Oct. 16, 1931, and their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on June 17, 1994.  Gregory was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad for 32 years and retired as a carman in 1974.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Union Pacific Old Timers. Survivors include one son, Ted Gregory and wife Ruth Ann of Green River; one daughter, Maxine Gosar and husband John of Green River; one brother, Jim Gregory and wife Lela of Lonetree; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Alma and Bonnie Gregory; one brother, Alma Gregory; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pearl and Claude Bullock and Annie and John Carlile.  Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2002, at the First Ward Chapel, 1000 W. Fourth N., Green River. Bishop Greg O’Neil will conduct the services. Interment will be in the Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Vase Flaming Gorge Chapel Sunday afternoon from 4-8 p.m. and again Monday morning at the church until time of services. Pallbearers will be Wade Gregory, Shawn Gregory, Sergio Munoz, Billy Stewart, James Young and Kip Rollins. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernie Blunk, Jim Carpenter, Robert Berg, Pat Anderson, Travis Gregory, Rusty Gregory, Chet Gregory, Kolby Rollins, Corey Gregory and Tanner Fern.

GREGORY,  Helen May 85, of 509 Railroad Ave., Rock Springs, died on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at Sage View Care Center. She was a longtime resident of Rock Springs. Mrs. Gregory died following a lengthy illness.  She was born May 18, 1919, in Helena, Mont., the daughter of Frank and Helen Dickenson Germaine.  Mrs. Gregory was raised in Red Lodge., Mont., where she graduated from high school.  She married Edwin Gregory in Billings, Mont., May 18, 1937, and he preceded her in death in 1960. Mrs. Gregory and her husband owned and operated the Model Cafe for 20 years. She also worked for the Sweetwater County Assessors Office until her retirement. She also worked for Dun & Bradstreet and was a distributor for the Rocky Mountain News for many years.  Her interests included bowling, traveling to Pinedale in her motor home, meeting friends for coffee in the morning at Daylight Donuts, working crossword puzzles and taking care of her pets.  Mrs. Gregory was a member of the Congregational Church.  Survivors include one daughter, Lynne Edwards and husband Rex of Vernal, Utah; daughter-in-law, Pat Gregory Knudsen and husband Allen of Rock Springs; four grandchildren, Tricia Gunderson and husband Monte of Rock Springs, Amy Parrish and husband Dave of Pinedale, Lynell Williams and husband Brian of Long View, Wash., and Lonnie Rae Edwards of Vernal, Utah; seven great-grandchildren, Brook Rutland, Terry Rutland, Melissa Gil and Cory Gunderson of Rock Springs, Ryan Gil of Green River, and Keiona Williams and Kegnan Williams of Long View; three step-grandchildren, Steve, Joseph and Catherine Gunderson of Rock Springs; and five great-great-grandchildren, Kelin George and Stevie Kaylynn Rice of Rock Springs and Tyson Gil, Cali May Gil and Phoenix and Blaze Rutland of Green River.  She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and one son, Kenneth Gregory.  Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs. Interment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday morning until time of services
